On most UK builds, construction site security now means a mix of perimeter fencing, CCTV towers, PIDs and remote monitoring rather than a guard on site all night. Construction site CCTV is only as good as the tower's power and connection, though: a tower with a flat battery or a dropped 4G link protects nothing, and nobody may notice until the morning.

Most mobile CCTV towers are off-grid, running on batteries charged by solar panels, a fuel cell, a small generator or a combination. The failure that causes most call-outs is simple: the battery runs down faster than the charging source can keep up, usually in winter or after a run of poor weather.

TrackSyte reads battery state of charge, voltage and solar charging from Victron equipment and smart lithium batteries, and fuel cell status from EFOY units, so you can see a falling battery days before the cameras go dark and plan a visit — or confirm the fuel cell is covering the shortfall.

On a CCTV tower, the connections that usually matter are Ethernet, LTE-M / NB-IoT cellular and GPIO for discrete status signals — with RS485 available when the tower's equipment uses a serial connection.

Mobile CCTV tower on a construction perimeter. A hire tower on a build site needs reliable power and connectivity more than another dashboard. Neo 2 reports status over Ethernet or cellular so the hire desk knows about a problem before the client calls. When a link drops overnight, the alert reaches operations — not the site manager discovering blank footage at 6am.

Temporary security tower with intermittent power. Events and short-term compounds often rely on generators, hybrid packs or unreliable mains. Remote alerts on power and connectivity cut out the "drive out to reboot it" routine, and show whether the tower lost power or simply needs a reset. Victron and Smart Shunt support helps where lithium or BMS batteries are already fitted.

Multi-tower hire fleet. Operators with dozens of trailers need one place to see which towers are healthy, which need a visit and which can wait. The Portal gives that shared view, so real faults drive the diary instead of a rota of check visits.

Tower plus nearby PID or security devices. Many compounds combine CCTV towers with perimeter intrusion detection. PID monitoring covers that side — in the same Portal, using the connections each device needs.
